Examples of New Business Relations Created with the Help of SACC-USA’s Entrepreneurial Days and Our Network

  • Leading Edge Hydraulics reached a business deal with Lidköping’ based Jimec to establish a new company that will be based in Sweden. The new company will service Leading Edge’s customer base in Europe, providing equipment for companies like John Deere, Hitachi, Caterpillar and Haldex.
  • Doug Pennington, Executive Dir., of Private Capital Network, California’s fastest growing angel investor association opened their first office in Sweden in March 2009 thanks to Entrepreneurial Days in Stockholm 2008.
  • In conjunction with Michigan Governor Granholm’s visit to South Sweden Entrepreneurial Days 2007, New Page’s pulp- and paper mill in Escanaba, MI, and the Swedish company Chemrec signed a $2.8 million dollar agreement to apply Chemrec’s black liquor gasification technology to the U.S. plant.
  • In September 2008, Ambassador Wood, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Gov. Granholm of Michigan broke ground on an $8 million project between Swedish Biogas and Michigan to create biogas from the city of Flint’s sewage plant, to power city buses and produce fertilizers.
  • The city of Savannah and Växjö signed an Economic & Environmental Collaboration Agreement to work on several industry specific areas including securing a sustainable future.
  • The cities of Lidköping and Rockford, IL, signed an industrial collaboration agreement thanks to SACC-USA.
  • Several new collaborative agreements have been established within the bio-energy industry in Västra Götaland and several regions in the U.S. through the SACC-USA network.
  • A Strategic Alliance Partnership was signed between Energikontor Sydost AB and Enterprise Seattle in May 2010.
  • Växjö University has a collaborative agreement with the Northern Michigan University and with Savannah College of Art & Design thanks to Entrepreneurial Days.
  • Representatives from the Arkansas Green Valley Network, visited Sweden during Stockholm Entrepreneurial Days 2008, to encourage companies to take part in the network. Several Swedish clean tech companies are in contact with Arkansas about business opportunities in the state, for example Picoterm, Chematur, and Ageratec.
  • Mardon International Healthcare Services from Arizona has started collaborating with several SACC members both in Sweden and the U.S. and has recently established a presence in South Sweden.
  • Bellman & Symfon found 10 new distributors through a SACC trade mission to Minnesota, Michigan, and Kansas.
  • SACC-USA has placed some 150 trainees with member companies and regional chambers around the U.S. since the launch of the Trainee Program in 2005.
  • Göteborgs Köpmannaförbund has established a scholarship together with the University of Gothenburg and SACC-USA for 150,000 SEK per year for five years for having an internship with SACC-USA which started in 2010.
  • Radius, a Karlskrona-based telecom company moved to Rockford,IL thanks to Entrepreneurial Days.
  • BenTech, a Helsingborg-based company, gained new customers in the U.S. thanks to Lidköping Entrepreneurial Days.
  • Hammar Maskin opened an office in California recently thanks to contacts made through SACC.
  • The State of North Carolina won the bidding for a Swedish company that is building a factory in the U.S. employing 50 people. The connection happened at Entrepreneurial Days.
  • Flexlink expanded its business in the U.S. through Entrepreneurial Days.
  • April Systems in California is a regular Entrepreneurial Days participant, picking up new business every year both in Sweden and in the U.S.
  • Hammarplast proceeded with contacts in Philadelphia that were established at an Entrepreneurial Days Golf tournament.
  • A joint venture between World Wood Products, Woodlands Resources of Thomasville and a private investor was established in the State of Georgia.
  • In the State of Arkansas Acticut International & Duralor Inc. use nanotechnology in cooperation with a local company producing metal cutting machines; (Green Valley Network- Incubator)
  • MANTEX now represented in the U.S. just finalized a B2B trade mission/visitation program in the State of Georgia
  • Cortus from STING (Stockholm Innovation & Growth) in partnership with other companies (supply chain) for marketing its gasification system in the State of Georgia
  • Entrepreneurial Days Seattle; Metrum and Heliospectra pitched for a few venture capitalist and got good feedback. Metrum has since then become a sub supplier for a ABB in the U.S. The city of Seattle and the city of Växjö signed a memorandum during Entrepreneurial Days.
  • In 2010 a group of students from George Washington University did market research projects for five Swedish clean tech companies, Swebo, i-Tec, Taurus Energy, ClimateWell and IBCleaning. This included a thorough establishment and expansion strategy for these companies on the U.S. market. The students visited Sweden for two weeks of study visits and presentations of their market research for the companies.
