Logistics

Logistics is an industry of industries, closely integrated with almost all aspects of everyday business. It is truly an ecosystem of its own. Sweden and Georgia are already working together to efficiently move cargo around the world. Georgia is in the top 5 US Customs districts with regards to trading with Sweden creating $1.1B in commerce. Georgia also provides 77% of the wood pulp, tall oil and clay that Swedish companies and individuals use everyday.

The Logistics Cluster at the Entrepreneurial Days in Savannah on April 20-22, 2009 will focus on the strengths, resources and capabilities that co-exist in both the Southeast US and Sweden. Join us as we explore such critical and timely topics as security,  technology, efficiency, and entrepreneurship  opportunities in the ever changing world of logistics.

The host state Georgia is a perfect match for this cluster where more than 35,000 logistics “user and provider” firms already employ 810,000 people and  collectively create greater than $553B in sales and revenue. More specifically, this years Edays host city – Savannah – is home to 28 waterfront facilities including the Georgia Ports  Authority (GPA) the 3rd largest, fastest growing, and among the most efficient in the Nation.

Example Logistics Cluster Topics:

 •Secure Logistics
      - Cargo Security
•The Cold Chain
      - Logistics of Perishables
•Start up Logistics
      - The Business of Logistics, Focus on Entrepreneurial Side
•Cargo on Wheels
      - Ro/Ro Cargo and Unique Aspects of their Supply Chains

Renewable Energy

The growing demand on energy in the global market has created the urgent need for innovations within this industry. The Renewable Energy cluster will have focus on the rapid development and large opportunities that Renewable Energies offer for two way developments between the U.S. and Sweden. With a spotlight on the South East, we will investigate the abundant local availability of Cellusloic Biofuels and the growing opportunities for Solar and Coastal Wave/Tide and Wind Power.

The focus on the Renewable Energy cluster at the SACC Entrepreneurial Days in Savannah on April 20-22, 2009 is to outline, understand key market and government drivers and compare the energy supply chains in the U.S. and Sweden from feedstock source to conversion to end use. We will uncover best practices and opportunities to enhance existing equipment and technology in production and distribution and end use efficiency markets. There will be a specific focus on the import/export and upgrade and conversion of cellulosic materials.

Areas which will be discussed and analyzed

Industrial Design

Innovation is being sought as a strategic differentiator. Today design delivers a good return on investment and creates an essential development force for both businesses that compete on a global market as well as public organizations. The Industrial Design cluster at the SACC Entrepreneurial Days in Savannah on April 20-22, 2009 will focus on Global Innovation and how design can assure product success in other countries. The hosting state Georgia has the advantage of several local consulting firms which is currently assisting a broad spectrum of companies in product design, development, engineering and implementation.

Georgia has also seen the importance of synchronization between the design industry and the academic world. There are several technical and professional schools in the area providing both traditional industrial design classes and online industrial design classes. Two of the leading schools are the Savannah College of Art and Design and the College of Architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology. They both prepare talented students for professional, innovative careers through their degree programs and specializations, with a wider range of programs than any other design universities in the United States.

According to a survey made by Swedish Industrial Design Foundation (SVID) about 80 per cent of the over 1000 companies who were interviewed declare that Swedish design is ahead of the field. Half of the companies (51%) say that their design costs have increased over the past few years. This is consistent with the rising demand trend, which also suggests that investments will continue to increase.

It is significant to discuss how we can use this growing demand for design to produce global innovation. The Industrial Design cluster will explore this issue and how we can benefit from the Swedish-American relationship. International experts will tell their stories and give advice on how to use design as a tool for global success. Entrepreneurs from the design field will talk about raising capital in the USA.

The following industries will be represented
