About Gothenburg

A Historic City and One of the Fastest Growing Regions in Northern Europe

Gothenburg is Sweden’s second largest city. The city was established in 1621 by King Karl II Adolf and the infrastructure was mainly influenced by Dutch and Englishmen back at this time. Located on the Swedish west coast, Gothenburg has Sweden’s largest port, and the ferry traffic from Gothenburg to the rest of the world is significant for the development in the region. By the 18th century Gothenburg was a very important trading city. The Ostindiska Company was established in 1731 and traveled 132 times to Asia mainly importing spices, silk and tea.
